The annual J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study1 is one of the most extensive of its kind in the automotive industry. Scores are determined by the number of problems per 100 vehicles made by a given brand (known as a PP100 score) over a three-year period, with problems listed in nine different categories. The lower the number, the fewer the problems, and so the better the reliability. The industry average is 204 PP100, but this number is higher for luxury brands, as most don’t manage to hit even the average. This makes it all the more impressive that Lexus tops the list with a score of 151 PP100, marking the thirteenth time in the last fifteen years that Lexus has been named the most dependable automotive brand in North America by J.D. Power.
