About the Lexus NX

There is no shortage of options when it comes to compact luxury SUVs, it's one of the most competitive segments in the automotive world. But one choice stands out from the rest, the Lexus NX. The NX combines the latest in technology with cutting edge styling and an engaging driving experience. A wide range of powertrain options are available, including several hybrid options that we've reviewed separately. A large interior filled with high quality materials greets you when you step inside, and the available 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen makes it easy to navigate the vehicle settings.

The NX was the first vehicle to get the advanced Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, with the current generation being designed to incorporate this technology from the start. It's no wonder that the NX is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS**.

What the Critics Say

"With a serene cabin, smooth ride and comfortable seats, the 2026 Lexus NX embodies Lexus' most attractive virtues." — Edmunds

"Don't go thinking Lexus spent its entire development budget on new engines and big, flashy touchscreens. Lexus has also worked to further reduce road noise, and the optional ambient lighting system offers a choice of 14 themes and 64 colors." — MotorTrend

What's New For 2026?

The biggest change to the NX for 2026 is that the less-popular NX 250 has been dropped from the lineup. That means the NX now has a higher standard power rating, and AWD is standard on every non-hybrid 2026 NX. Other than that, there is a new paint color, Infrared. Ultra White, previously only available on select trims, is now available for the whole lineup.

Lexus NX Features

Lexus NX Performance

Enhanced Styling & Performance

From the LED headlights flanking the signature spindle grille to the available 20-inch wheels, the NX makes a serious visual statement. No less bold is the interior, where high-quality materials and design blend cutting-edge technology with serious comfort and refinement. All bathed in light from either the available panoramic sunroof or the 64-color thematic ambient lighting.

The standard power plant in the NX is a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that provides a potent 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. This power is sent through an advanced 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. The NX gives you some extra functionality in the form of selectable drive modes. For most trims, these modes are Normal, ECO and Sport, while F SPORT models offer Sport S instead of Sport, and the additional modes Sport S+ and Custom.

Lexus NX Technology

Technological Innovation

Advanced technology is at the heart of the NX, and quite a few of these advanced features join the technology that drives the powerful and efficient engine options. The NX comes with the Lexus Interface, operated by either the standard 9.8-inch touchscreen, or the even bigger available 14-inch unit. Over-the-air updates keep everything up to date, and user profiles can be saved to cloud storage. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, and your smartphone has additional wireless capabilities thanks to the standard Digital Key.

Lexus NX Safety

Groundbreaking Safety

The NX was the first vehicle to get Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, and this highly advanced system provides the NX with a level of safety equipment not previously seen in this segment. This includes features like Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Road Sign Assist, Intelligent High Beams, Lane Assistance, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Oncoming Pedestrian Detection/Braking. There is even Safe Exit Assist, which scans the area to help you avoid opening a door and hitting a cyclist or another car. This is always a risk when parallel parking, another activity the NX can help with, thanks to Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking.
