About the Lexus ES
TThe Lexus ES debuted alongside the LS as the first two Lexus models, and the ES continues to serve as an integral part of the brand. Now in its eighth generation, the ES has evolved to support an all-electric drivetrain, as well as cutting-edge technology. But everything that made the ES what it is remains, including the luxury interior and exceptionally comfortable ride. And with the switch to an electric drivetrain, quiet and smooth driving is emphasised more than ever. The advanced technology in the ES leads the industry, especially when it comes to safety technology, although features like five different drive modes and an available audiophile-grade stereo are also incredibly appealing. It’s easy to see that the ES is so important to Lexus.
What the Critics Say
"This ES marks a new chapter for Lexus, as the car showcases new design approaches, technology features, and assisted driving capabilities." -- MotorTrend
"With an enduring reputation for its quiet and comfort-oriented personality, silent electric propulsion might well enhance those traits, making the ES even more tranquil—something its buyers will no doubt appreciate" -- Car & Driver
What’s New For 2026
Essentially, everything is new for 2026. The ES didn’t just get a new body and interior, but a completely new drivetrain as well. While the hybrid version of the ES still exists, the gas-only version was dropped, and there is a new all-electric ES for 2026.
Lexus ES Features
Effortless Performance
In keeping with the futuristic design of the ES, the all-electric drivetrain is incredibly advanced. In standard form, the ES is front-wheel drive and produces 221 horsepower. Opt for all-wheel drive, and you get a second motor for the rear wheels that boosts total output to 338 horsepower. The AWD drivetrain gives you 276 miles of range, while the FWD version reaches 307 miles. Where the advanced technology comes in is how incredibly efficient these drivetrains are, which means the ES doesn’t need a huge battery to achieve these numbers. That means that Level 2 AC charging, like the kind you do with a home charger, takes you from 0 to 110 percent battery in just 7 hours, several hours quicker than the norm for EVs that offer this kind of range. DC fast charging is impressively quick too, going from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.
Contemporary Luxury
The styling of the ES, inside and out, blends Lexus’s advanced technology with contemporary luxury aesthetics in a cohesive and visually pleasing way that is also easy to use. The interior is spacious and comes with a long list of standard features. Heated and ventilated front seats come standard, and although heated and ventilated rear seats are rare, especially in this price range, they are available for the ES. Active sound control, along with the electric drivetrain, makes for an incredibly quiet and serene interior. And even though the ES is capable of going from 0 to 60 in just 5.1 seconds, it remains composed and comfortable no matter how you drive it. The available layered bamboo trim blends traditional materials and techniques with modern luxury aesthetics. And for music lovers, there is the available 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson® PurePlay Surround Sound system to make any listening experience exceptional.
Advanced Technology
The advanced drivetrain isn’t the only piece of cutting-edge technology found in the ES. The ES also comes with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, the most advanced suite of safety features ever offered on a Lexus vehicle, and all of it is standard. This includes features such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, and more. The ES comes with a next-generation version of the Lexus Interface infotainment operating system, which includes Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant, and Destination Assist, as well as a 14-inch touchscreen that is easy to see and use. You can also tailor your driving experience to what you want with Normal, Eco, Sport, Range, and Custom driving modes.
