About The Lexus NX PHEV

Part of the reason why the Lexus NX has become so popular is the diverse powertrain options. There is a standard gasoline engine, and a “traditional” hybrid, but the top trims come with an advanced new plug-in hybrid drivetrain, making this the first Lexus PHEV vehicle. This drivetrain produces 304 horsepower, which makes it the most powerful in the NX lineup. It will hit 0-60 in just 6 seconds, down from the 6.6 seconds you get from the second-fastest drivetrain in the NX. And if you want to take full advantage of that performance, there is an F-Sport Handling trim, which is similar to the NX 350 F-Sport Handling, but quicker. But the NX PHEV is focused on comfort as well, and the interior is exceptionally well-appointed, from the 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System and 14-inch touchscreen display to the standard 10-inch head-up display. Genuine leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated and ventilated front seats. It’s a great place to sit and actually enjoy your commute.

What the Critics Say

"Cabin design takes a big leap forward in this generation of NX, with a modern look and classy materials. The NX offers one of the more spacious cabins in the luxury subcompact crossover segment, with slightly more passenger room in the rear seat and more cargo space with the rear seats folded than many of its rivals." — Car & Driver

"Ultimately, the most appealing and distinctive powertrain option is found in the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. Its electric motor provides the smooth, effortless punch expected of a PHEV thanks to its 304 total system horsepower." — Autoblog

Lexus NX PHEV Features

Lexus NX PHEV

Advanced Drivetrain

The NX offers far more drivetrain options than you’d expect from a compact SUV. And although all of these options are excellent, the PHEV drivetrain found in the NX 450h+ and NX 450h+ F-Sport Handling sit at the top of the lineup for a reason. With 304 horsepower, this is the most powerful version of the NX. But it’s also the most efficient, with an estimated 37 miles of all-electric range, enough for most people to complete their normal daily commuting on electric power only. Like most of the other trims for the NX, the two trim levels of the NX PHEV come with standard all-wheel drive, as well as a selection of drive modes, ECO, Normal, Sport and EV (the F-Sport expands the list to ECO, Normal, Sport S, Sport S+, EV and Custom modes). The F-Sport also brings with it F-Sport tuned suspension, to make for an even more entertaining time behind the wheel.

Sophisticated Luxury

Every trim of the NX comes with a surprisingly spacious interior with notably comfortable seats, but with their positioning at the top of the NX lineup, the PHEV trims come with the absolute most in standard equipment. So things like the 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, the 10-inch head-up display, and the heated and ventilated front seats might be options on other trims, but they come standard on PHEV models. You also get 20-inch wheels, and advanced Bi-LED headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System and daytime running lights, which aren’t even offered as an option on lower trims. Of course, dual-zone climate control with an interior air filter, smog sensor and automatic recirculation mode comes standard on all trims, as clean air that is just the right temperature is a must for anything to be considered a luxury vehicle. And helping to set the mood is 64-color ambient lighting with selectable themes, another piece of equipment that is only standard on PHEV trims.

Cutting Edge Technology

It’s only fitting that a vehicle with such an advanced drivetrain would also be packed full of all kinds of other advanced technologies. This is especially true of safety technology, which has always been something Lexus has emphasized. The NX, in all its forms, comes with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, a suite of the latest in Lexus safety technology. This includes things like All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Intersection Support, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a lot more. Some of this tech is optional on competing vehicles, but Lexus understands that feeling safe is an important component of luxury, and the company’s truly unmatched safety record is a testament to this. There is only one piece of technology that doesn’t come standard on base NX models, Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, but this is indeed standard on PHEV models.
