ABOUT LEXUS SMARTACCESS KEY FOBS

In the past, car keys were fairly basic devices that featured a keyblade cut to match the lock cylinder of your vehicle’s doors and ignition. Today’s technology has led to the development of extremely sophisticated security features which include your Lexus SmartAccess Key Fob. Found inside your key is hardware that contains vehicle-based sensors which detect the proximity of your key. This allows you to lock and unlock your doors along with starting the push-button ignition -- all without the need to take your keys out of your pocket or purse. Exposure to weather elements, daily usage, and minor damage can all be potential causes for your key to not function as it should.

Depending on the model year of your Lexus, the key may contain a battery that could wear out over time with daily usage. Should you begin to experience any symptoms of a weak or dying key battery, it’s time to have our expert Lexus parts specialists determine if your key requires a new battery or a replacement.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Key battery replacements could take as little as 15 minutes. Depending on your specific model and type of key, our parts department may need to order a replacement requiring a wait time of 2-3 days. You are welcomed to schedule an appointment at your convenience. Costs will vary depending on the type of key, but replacement is typically around $300.

To properly test the remote and mechanical key function, the dealer will require access to your vehicle – either at the dealership or at the location of the vehicle. The repair process will be documented on a Repair Order; this process may be subject to an additional service charge.

COVERAGE EXCLUSIONS MAY APPLY:

Replacement keys, if you did not receive two (2) master keys at the time of purchase/lease of the vehicle;
Replacement keys, if the damaged keys are covered by the manufacturer's, repairer's, or supplier's warranty or recall;
Any costs associated when the vehicle key becomes inoperable due to malfunctioning, or a result of reprogramming of vehicle's main body ECU

Purchase of a Key Replacement agreement is optional, cancellable (see agreement terms) and not required to obtain credit.
